Falls

Sept 24

Rain had continued to fall throughout the night and morning. We napped in then rose once the sun had showed. A relatively peaceful night, only issue is the tent leaking around it's seams, not horribly. Besides the rain, the temperature has been ideal, thankfully.

We set off from Julian Price campground. Liz commanding the BRZ for the day. We began to venture back a few miles to an off parkway spot which turned out to be a dud. Then stopped at the Manor. Unfortunately tours were not occurring, so seeing anything off the first floor didn't happen. A 3600 acre estate donated to BRP. The owner was a salesman turned textile, even supporting Levi Strauss. After the quick stop at the Manor we set off to put a few miles in and check out an another engineering marvel.

The Linn Cove viaduct, a seven mile stretch of BRP which was the answer to a couple of problems. Firstly, the need to protect the local habitat. Secondly, the difficult terrain including the slope of the mountain it's built upon. Thirdly, to continue the BRP. After years of trying the viaduct was created, solving each of the issues above. The visitor center for this location was destitute, sadly. I was looking forward to buying some merchandise. The clouds covered a good shot, but we drove up and down parts of the area several times just because of how cool the section is.

Having had a bit too much fun we pressed further South and arrived at the Linville Falls campground. Where we drove around the lot a few times after speaking with the ranger to pick a site A19. A gorgeous spot, we set up the tent early as rain was expected. Set in the treeline with a creek behind.

After setting up we went into town off of 221 and did the usual resupply of grub and fuel. On our way back to the BRP we stopped on the other side of the gorge and hiked the Linville Falls. We went to each of the lookouts, with a phenomenal view of the falls.

Within a couple of hours after the hike we settled in for the night as the rain continued
